Swimming lessons are a priority for many families on the Northern Beaches. We list ten swim schools, pools and clubs across the area, from Terrey Hills to Fairlight. This guide shows where they are and what to check before you book.

Swim schools and pools

Brookvale has two swim schools listed, In2Swim Swim Schools and NS Swim School. The others are spread out: Carlile Swimming Killarney Heights, Kool Swim Skool in Belrose, Terrey Hills Swim School, Pat Taylor Swim School in Dee Why and Manly Andrew Boy Charlton Swim Centre in Fairlight.

Two aquatic centres are also on the list: Warringah Aquatic Centre in Bantry Bay and Manly Aquatic Centre in Manly Vale. Aquatic centres often run lessons alongside general swimming, but we don't have their timetables, so check each centre's page.

A club for older swimmers

Narrabeen Amateur Swimming Club in North Narrabeen is listed too. A club is different from a swim school, as it usually suits children who can already swim and want to train or race. Ask the club what level it expects and how a new swimmer joins.

What we don't know yet

No swimming events or set-time classes are listed for the area right now, and we don't have fees, age ranges or class sizes. We won't guess. Contact the provider directly.

Questions to ask:

  • What ages and levels do you take, and how do you place a new swimmer?
  • How many children are in each class, and how many teachers?
  • Is the pool indoors or outdoors, and is it heated?
  • Do you run intensive courses in the school holidays?

Choosing lessons

Pick somewhere you can reach easily at the same time each week. Families in Brookvale, Dee Why and Belrose each have a swim school close by, and those near the Manly end can look at Manly Vale and Fairlight. Parents around Killarney Heights and Terrey Hills have a school in their own suburb.

For babies and toddlers, ask about parent-and-child classes and water temperature. For school-age children, ask how progress is checked and how a child moves up a level. A short visit to watch a lesson can tell you a lot about how the teachers work with nervous swimmers.

Keeping up with what's new

We're still adding swimming options across the Northern Beaches. New listings will show in the events and clubs below. For the latest, check the organisers' own pages.
