Dance classes for kids are easy to find across the Eastern Suburbs, from Bondi and Waverley to Randwick and Little Bay. We list ten dance clubs and schools. This guide shows where they are and how to choose one.
Where the dance studios are
Seven Ways has two listed: Baby Ballet Academy and Tap Pups / Tap Dogs HQ. The others are Dance Spot (listed under Eastern Suburbs), Eastern Suburbs Physie in Maroubra, The Teresa Johnson Ballet School in Five Ways, Bronte Ballet School in Waverley, C5 Dance Studio in Little Bay, Dance Chora in Queens Park, Oz Dance Studios in Randwick and School of Arts Academy of Dance in Bondi.
Some names point to a style, such as ballet, tap and physie. We don't have a full list of what each studio teaches, so check the studio's own page for styles and levels.
What we don't know yet
No dance events or set-time classes are listed for the area right now, and we don't have fees, age ranges or term dates. We won't guess. Each studio sets its own, so contact them directly.
Questions worth asking:
- Which classes suit my child's age and experience?
- Can we try a class before enrolling?
- What does a term cost, and when does it start?
- Is there an end-of-year show, and is joining in optional?
- Do we need to buy a uniform or shoes straight away?
Choosing a studio
Start close to home. Parking and traffic in the Eastern Suburbs can be tricky, so a studio you can reach easily will be easier to stick with. Families in Waverley, Bronte and Bondi have studios nearby. Randwick and Queens Park families have Oz Dance Studios and Dance Chora, and those further south can look at Maroubra and Little Bay.
Think about what your child wants. Some like the structure of ballet, others the rhythm of tap, and some just want to move and have fun. A studio that fits that goal tends to keep a child interested. Younger children may enjoy a short, playful class. If you can, watch a lesson or ask for a trial to see how the teacher works with the group.
Keeping up with what's new
We're still adding dance classes and events across the Eastern Suburbs. New listings will show in the events and clubs below. For the latest, check each organiser's own page.
