The Sutherland Shire has a good choice of dance studios for kids, many of them around Caringbah and Menai. We list ten dance clubs and schools. This guide shows where they are and what to ask before you enrol.
Where the dance studios are
Caringbah has the most, with K.C. Dance, WAM Dancers and Dance Works Studio, and Revival Dance Studios is just along in Caringbah South. Menai has two nearby: Planetdance Menai in Menai and Menai Dance Centre in Alfords Point. The others are Compeat Dance in Miranda, Inspiration Dance Academy in Jannali, KRS Dance in Kareela and Meridian Dance Centre in Sutherland.
We don't list the dance styles each studio teaches, so check each studio's own page to see whether it offers ballet, jazz, hip hop, tap or others.
What we don't know yet
No dance events or set-time classes are listed for the area at the moment, and we don't have fees, age ranges or term dates for these studios. We won't guess. Contact the studio directly.
Questions to ask:
- What styles and levels do you offer for my child's age?
- Is there a trial class?
- How is the year organised, and what does it cost?
- Is there a concert or competition team, and are they optional?
- What uniform or shoes will we need?
Choosing a studio
Location counts. A class you can reach easily after school is more likely to last. Families in Caringbah, Woolooware and Gymea have several studios close by. Those in Miranda, Sutherland, Jannali and Kareela each have one in or near their suburb. Menai, Illawong and Barden Ridge families can look at the two Menai-area studios.
Think about what your child enjoys. Some want to train towards performances. Others want a weekly class for fun and fitness. A studio that fits your goal is more likely to keep your child interested. If you have a young child, ask whether there is a short, play-based class before moving into more structured ones.
It can help to visit a studio, meet the teacher and see how the children are treated. Many are happy for you to watch a class or try one.
