Sport for kids on the Northern Beaches leans towards martial arts and gymnastics. We have ten clubs listed, from Balgowlah and Mona Vale to Collaroy Plateau, Allambie and Brookvale. Six have jiu-jitsu in their name, one is a hapkido club, and two are gymnastics clubs. No sport events or one-off classes are listed right now, so this guide is about the clubs you can contact.
Jiu-jitsu clubs
The listed jiu-jitsu clubs are Alliance Jiu Jitsu Sydney in Balgowlah, Gracie Barra Mona Vale, Gracie Jiu-jitsu in Mona Vale, Gracie Barra Sydney in Allambie Heights, Northern Beaches Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Collaroy Plateau and Pacheco Jiu-Jitsu in Warriewood. SJJA Brookvale is also listed in Brookvale. We do not have class times or age groups, so ask each club which kids' classes it runs.
Hapkido
Northern Beaches Hapkido is in Allambie. Ask the club about the ages it takes, how classes are structured and whether a trial class is possible.
Gymnastics
Two gymnastics clubs are listed: Manly Warringah Gymnastics Club in Collaroy Plateau, and the Academy of Acrobatics and Gymnastics International in Brookvale. Check each club's own page for class levels, age ranges and term dates, as we do not hold those details.
Questions to ask any club
- What ages and levels are the kids' classes?
- Can my child try a class before we sign up?
- What do fees cover, and is there a uniform or membership cost?
- How are safety and supervision handled?
- What times are classes, and is there a waiting list?
Choosing what suits your child
Martial arts clubs tend to be a good fit for kids who like structure and learning step by step, while gymnastics may suit children who love to climb, tumble and move. These are general ideas only, so ask each club what a first class looks like. Pick a club near home or school so it is easy to attend each week. Mona Vale and Brookvale each have more than one club listed, which makes comparing simple.
Clubs change their timetables and places, so use their own pages for the latest details. We are still adding sport options across the Northern Beaches, so check back soon.
