Families around Ryde and Hunters Hill can choose from a good number of dance studios, with most of them in West Ryde and Gladesville. We list ten dance clubs and schools in the area. This guide shows where they are and how to pick one for your child.

Where the dance studios are

Gladesville has the most, with four listed: Rhapsody Studios, Dance Action, Putney Dance Co. and The Sydney Ballet Conservatory. West Ryde has three: Stepaside Studios, Vibz Performing Artz and Inspirations Dance Centre. The others are The Edge Dance Centre in Midway, Whitney Schofield Dance Academy in Macquarie Park and KLD Performing Arts, also listed in Gladesville.

We don't have a dance studio listed in Hunters Hill itself yet. If you live there, Gladesville is the nearest group of studios on our list, and Putney Dance Co. is listed under Gladesville too.

What we don't know yet

No dance events are listed for the area at the moment, and we don't have class times, prices or age ranges for these studios. We won't guess. Each studio sets its own timetable and fees, so contact them directly.

Questions worth asking:

  • Which styles do you teach, and which classes suit my child's age?
  • Can my child try a class before we enrol?
  • How is the year organised, and what are the costs?
  • Is there a performance, and is joining in optional?

Choosing a studio

Location matters more than people expect. A class that is easy to reach after school is far more likely to become a habit. Parents in West Ryde, Denistone and Eastwood can look at the three West Ryde studios first. Those in Gladesville, Putney, Henley and Huntleys Point have four close by. Macquarie Park and North Ryde families can start with Whitney Schofield Dance Academy.

Next, think about what your child enjoys. Some studios are strongly classical, and The Sydney Ballet Conservatory's name suggests a focus on ballet, while others, such as the performing arts groups, may mix dance with singing or drama. Check the studio's own page to see what the classes actually involve. A short visit or trial lesson will tell you plenty about the teachers and the mood in the room.

Keeping up with what's new

We're still adding dance classes and events around Ryde and Hunters Hill. New listings will show in the events and clubs below. For the latest details, check the organisers' own pages.
