If your child wants to dance, the Northern Beaches has plenty of studios to look at. We list ten dance clubs and schools across the area, from Mona Vale to Belrose and Killarney Heights. This guide shows where they are and what to ask before you sign up.
Where the dance studios are
Brookvale has the biggest group, with three listed: Ferocity Dance Centre Brookvale, Maynard Academy Of Dance and Elite Performance Studios. Mona Vale has two, Dynamite Premiere Academy and Peninsula Physie Dance Studio. The rest are spread across the area: Plié Groove and Shuffle in Cromer, Ballet Academy Northside in Belrose, Bourne 2 Dance in Collaroy Plateau, North Balgowlah Dance in North Balgowlah and Vibe Dance Studios in Killarney Heights.
We don't list the dance styles each studio teaches, so use the studio's own page to see whether it offers ballet, jazz, hip hop, tap or something else. Peninsula Physie Dance Studio runs physie, which is a group routine style, if your child likes working as part of a team.
What we don't know yet
No dance classes with set times or prices are listed for the area right now, and there are no dance events either. We have no age ranges, fees or term dates for these studios, so we won't guess at them. Contact the studio directly for those details.
Useful questions:
- What age and level is each class, and can my child try one first?
- How many weeks are in a term, and what does it cost?
- Is there a concert or exam at the end of the year, and is it optional?
- Do you need special shoes or uniform from day one?
Choosing a studio
A studio near home or school makes a weekly class much easier to keep up. Families in Brookvale, Allambie and Frenchs Forest have several to compare within a short trip. People further north can look at the Mona Vale studios, and those near the southern beaches can start with North Balgowlah Dance.
Think about what your child wants from it. Some children want to learn technique and perform. Others just want to move and be with friends. A studio that matches that goal will hold their interest for longer. Many studios welcome a visit or a trial class, which is a good way to see how teachers speak to the children.
Keeping up with what's new
We're still adding dance classes and events across the Northern Beaches. When new ones are listed they appear in the events and clubs below. For the latest timetable, fees and spaces, check each organiser's own page.
