Where to start
For a child who is new to the water, the learn-to-swim schools are the natural starting point. The two with learn-to-swim in their names are Turramurra Learn To Swim in Warrawee and Hornsby Learn to Swim in Waitara. A swim club such as Hornsby Swim Club is more likely to suit a child who can already swim and wants to train with a group. If you are not sure, ask for an assessment or a trial class first.
Questions to ask before you book
- What levels and ages does each class cover?
- How many children are in a group?
- Is the pool indoors or outdoors, and is it heated?
- Can a parent stay and watch?
- What happens if we miss a lesson?
Making it work for the family
Waitara has two listings, so it is a handy place to compare. Otherwise the choices are spread along the area, so pick the one that sits on your usual school or work run and the weekly trip will feel easier. If you have children of different ages, ask whether classes can be booked back to back.
