Schools, centres and clubs
Going by their names, some listings are swim schools, some are aquatic centres or pools, and some are clubs. A school is usually the place to start if your child is new to the water. A club suits a child who can already swim and wants to train or race with others. If you are unsure, ask for an assessment before choosing. Karen's Indoor Swimming School has indoor in its name, which may matter if you want lessons that do not depend on the weather, so ask the school to confirm.
Questions to ask before you book
- What levels and ages does each class cover?
- How many children are in a class?
- Is the pool indoors or outdoors, and is it heated?
- Can a parent watch from the side?
- What is the policy if we miss a lesson?
Planning around your week
Padstow and Roselands each have two listings, so they are easy places to compare. The suburbs in this area are spread out, so work out the drive at the time you would actually be going. If you have more than one child, ask whether they can be booked into back-to-back classes.
