Swimming for kids in Sydney City and the Inner South: we have 10 places listed, made up of four pools and six swim schools. They run from Potts Point and Ultimo to Alexandria, Pyrmont and Redfern. We have no one-off swimming events or classes listed right now, so this guide is about places you can contact.
Pools
- Andrew (Boy) Charlton Pool, Potts Point
- Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre, Ultimo
- Prince Alfred Park Swimming Pool, Strawberry Hills
- Victoria Park Pool, Darlington
Pools suit families who want to swim together or practise between lessons. Check each pool's own page for opening times, fees and whether lessons or kids' sessions run there, because we don't hold those details.
Swim schools
- Little Heroes Swim Academy, Alexandria
- Aquatic Achievers Alexandria Swim School, Alexandria
- JUMP! Swim Schools Pyrmont, Pyrmont
- Swimlab, Redfern
- Nereids Aquatic Coaching, Sydney
- Duck And Dive Baby Swim School (Broadway/Ultimo), Chippendale
Duck And Dive is the one with baby in its name, so start there if you are looking for the youngest swimmers, and ask about the youngest age it takes. Alexandria has two schools, so families nearby can compare.
Questions to ask before you enrol
- What ages does each class take, and how are children placed in a level?
- How big are the classes, and does a parent need to be in the water?
- Can your child try a lesson first?
- How does the school handle a missed lesson?
- Do lessons run all year or in terms, and is there a waiting list?
Planning the trip
- Pack swimmers, a towel, goggles if your child uses them, and a warm change of clothes. A snack for afterwards helps with tired swimmers.
- Check the pool's page before you go, because pools can close for maintenance or events.
- Allow extra time for changing, especially with babies and toddlers.
More on the way
We're still adding swimming classes and events across the inner city. The events and clubs below are what we have today. For the latest details on ages, costs and times, check each organiser's own page.
