Sport for kids in the Sutherland Shire is mostly run through clubs and local martial arts schools, and we have 10 places listed so far. They cover rugby union, baseball, surf life saving, climbing, skating and four martial arts schools. We have no one-off sport events or classes listed for the shire right now, so this guide is about places you can contact and join.
Where the listed places are
Here is where each one sits, so you can pick something close to home or school.
- Caringbah: 5sports, DOS Taekwondo and Gracie Barra Caringbah.
- Cronulla: Cronulla Surf Life Saving Club.
- Woolooware: Burraneer Rugby Union Club.
- Sylvania Waters: Cronulla Sharks Baseball Club.
- Sutherland: Double Dragon Martial Arts.
- Engadine: Head Academy Kung Fu.
- Gymea: Climb Fit Kirrawee.
- Kurnell: Greenhills Skate Park.
Choosing a sport
- Team sport: the rugby union club and the baseball club are the two team-sport clubs on our list. Ask each one how to sign up and when its season starts, because we don't hold that detail.
- Martial arts: four of the ten are martial arts schools. They are DOS Taekwondo, Double Dragon, Gracie Barra Caringbah and Head Academy Kung Fu. Ask whether your child can try a class first and which age groups they take.
- Surf: Cronulla Surf Life Saving Club is the one surf option listed. Ask the club about junior programs and what a child needs before joining.
- Climbing and skating: Climb Fit Kirrawee and Greenhills Skate Park are the two options for kids who would rather work on their own skills than play in a team.
- Something else: 5sports in Caringbah is also listed. Check with them which sports they run and for what ages.
Planning the week
- Contact the club first. We don't have ages, prices or session times for these places, so ask before you travel.
- The places are spread across the shire, so check how far each one is from home or school before you commit to a weekly trip.
- Ask about a trial session, what your child should wear or bring, and whether there is a waiting list.
- If you have more than one child, ask whether the club takes a mix of ages at the same time, so one trip covers everyone.
More on the way
We're still adding sport classes and events across the Sutherland Shire. The events and clubs below are what we have today. For the latest details on ages, costs and times, check each organiser's own page.
