Looking for sport for kids in the Eastern Suburbs? Roolu lists ten sport clubs in the area right now, covering martial arts, sailing, outrigger canoeing, surf life saving and gymnastics. There are no sport events or classes listed at the moment. This guide runs through the clubs and how to choose between them.

Clubs by kind of sport

The clubs below this guide link to each organiser. Here is how the ten sort out:

  • Karate and martial arts: Kyokushin Karate in Ben Buckler, Maroubra Kyokushin Karate in Maroubra and Shaolin Monk Martial Arts in South Coogee.
  • Also in Bondi Junction: Gracie Barra Bondi and GFTeam Bondi. Both are listed as sport clubs, so check their pages for what they teach and who it is for.
  • On the water: Bondi Outrigger Canoe Club in Rose Bay, Double Bay Sailing Club in Double Bay and Yarra Bay Sailing Club in Phillip Bay.
  • Surf life saving: Coogee SLSC in Coogee.
  • Gymnastics: East Gymnastics in Edgecliff.

Choosing a club

Our listings give the name and the suburb of each club, not the ages, fees or timetables. That means the organiser is the best source for the details that matter. Before you commit, it helps to ask:

  • Which ages and skill levels do you take?
  • Can my child try a session first?
  • What days and times do classes or training run?
  • What does it cost, and is there a sign-up or membership fee?
  • What does my child need to bring or wear?

For the water clubs, also ask whether children need to be able to swim, and what safety gear is provided.

Think about travel

The clubs are spread across the Eastern Suburbs, from Edgecliff and Double Bay to Maroubra, Coogee and Phillip Bay. A club that is close to home or school is much easier to keep going with week after week. If two clubs look similar, the shorter trip often wins. Check parking and public transport on the organiser's page.

Trying more than one

Kids often want to try a few things before settling. With karate, sailing, canoeing, surf life saving and gymnastics all in the list, there is a fair spread to try. Many clubs have a way to try a session first, but we cannot say which, so ask.

What is next

We are still adding sport options for the Eastern Suburbs, including events and classes. Check the organisers' own pages for the latest details before you go.
