Good news for Whalan: there's a decent list within reach, with a free weekend kids club, two Santa events, bushcare, karate and dance schools and a couple of pools. The Summer school holidays run from 18 Dec 2026 to 27 Jan 2027 (starting in 6 weeks). Those are NSW public-school dates, and Catholic and independent schools can differ, so check with your own school.
What's on now
Roolu lists six events near Whalan:
- Lone Pine Kids Club in Rooty Hill, listed as free weekend kids activities.
- Bushcare meet up at Nurragingy Reserve in Doonside.
- Santa's Arrival Parade and the Reindeer Brunch with Santa and Mrs Claus, both at Westfield Mt Druitt.
- The Blacktown Shorts Film Festival Encore Screening in Glendenning.
- A community event in Blacktown, listed with Rooty Hill and other centres.
Organisers set the dates and the ages, so open each listing below. Check with the film festival about which films suit children before you bring younger ones.
Classes for the kids
The classes listed are in Mount Druitt and St Marys. Mount Druitt has Little Tigers and Kids Karate, Self Defense and Jiu Jitsu Classes. St Marys has Little Dragon Champions, Champion Kids, Mat Ninjas and Physie for ages 3 to 4. Only the Physie class has an age listed, so contact the others about who they suit.
Clubs, pools and play
Mount Druitt is the place for Pollet's Karate Academy, Kyokushin-Kai Karate Mt Druitt Dojo, Carol Murray's School of Dance and Minchinbury Jets JRLC. Timezone and Westfield Mt Druitt are on the list too. For water and leisure, there's Emerton Pools in Plumpton and Charlie Lowles Leisure Centre in Oxley Park. We don't have opening times or prices for any of these, so check the venue's own page before you go.
Making the break easier
- A free weekend session is a good anchor. Pair it with a park or a library stop.
- Santa events at a shopping centre can be busy, so aim to arrive early.
- Ask each club or school about trial classes and whether they run extra sessions.
- Check the travel time. Doonside, Rooty Hill, Mount Druitt and Plumpton are close, but Glendenning is a little further.
For the latest details, the organisers' own pages always win.
