Two things on our Lower North Shore list suit a wet day: a Frozen sing-a-long film screening in Cremorne and French classes for kids and parents in Artarmon. That is a short list, and we would rather say so than pad it. We have six events listed for the area, but we've left out the ones that look to be outdoors, such as the bush kids session in Lane Cove North and the cricket in North Sydney, and the ones where we can't tell whether they suit children. We have no indoor classes or clubs listed here yet.
Two ideas for a wet day
- Frozen sing-a-long (Cremorne): listed as a monthly film screening. Ask the venue about the next session, the ticket cost and the age it suits.
- French classes for your kids and you (Artarmon): the title says the class is for children and a parent together. Check the age range and whether it is a drop-in or a course.
Planning a wet day
- Decide in the morning. Rain changes how long a trip takes, so leave extra time.
- Check with the organiser that your session is held indoors and that it is still on if the weather is bad.
- Pack a towel, a spare set of clothes and a bag for wet shoes and coats.
- Bring snacks and water, because indoor days can run long and cafes get busy when it rains.
- Have a plan B at home, such as a favourite game or a craft box, in case a session is full.
Making the most of one outing
With so few indoor options on the list, it helps to build the day around one thing:
- Pick a time that suits your child's nap or meal times.
- Keep the rest of the day quiet, since a film or a class can be tiring for little ones.
- If a session is full, ask the organiser when the next one runs.
- For a sing-a-long, let children sing as loud as they like. That is the point.
More on the way
We're still adding indoor classes, clubs and events for the Lower North Shore, from Mosman and Lane Cove to Chatswood and North Sydney. The events below are what we have today. For the latest details on times and booking, check each organiser's own page.
