When it rains in Blacktown, there are indoor places to try: an arts centre, a library, an aquatic centre and a couple of martial arts and fitness spots. We're still adding more indoor options, so this list will grow.
Indoor places to try
- Blacktown Arts Centre is listed. Ask what is on for children and whether there is a cost.
- Max Webber Library is listed. Libraries are a calm choice, so ask whether any children's sessions are running.
- Blacktown Aquatic Centre is listed. Ask which pools are indoors or covered before you pack the swimming bag.
- AJS Self Defence - Taekwondo and Hapkido is listed. Ask about trial classes and the ages it takes.
- Fight Rite Gym is listed. Ask whether it has classes for children before you go.
Good to know
The Criminal Process, a UNSW Youth Legal Workshop in Blacktown, is an indoor event we have listed. It is for young people, so check the age range and booking details with the organiser.
We left out outdoor listings, such as the bushcare meet ups in Seven Hills and Doonside, because this guide only covers indoor options.
Ideas for a wet day
- Start with the indoor place closest to home. Wet weather and long drives don't mix well with children.
- Phone ahead. Opening hours and class times can change, and it is better to know before you leave.
- Pack a towel and a change of clothes if you are heading to the aquatic centre.
- Bring snacks and a drink bottle. Check whether the venue allows food inside.
- On a wet weekend, popular indoor places can get busy. Ask the organiser when it is quietest, and think about a morning visit.
- If your child needs to burn off energy, a trial class or a swim may help, and a library visit afterwards can wind things down.
