Looking for music for kids on the Upper North Shore? Roolu lists ten music schools and studios in the area right now, in Turramurra, Gordon, Hornsby, Lindfield and Thornleigh. There are no music events or classes listed separately at the moment, so this guide covers the schools and how to choose one.

Who is listed, by suburb

The clubs below this guide link to each organiser. Here is where they are:

  • Turramurra: International School of Music and The Learning Lounge.
  • Gordon: Music Makers Gordon, Picks and Sticks Music School and The Sound Society Music Tuition.
  • Hornsby: Black Wall Studios & Music Tuition, Morgan Music Academy and Jim Jam Music.
  • Lindfield: Cadenza Music Institute.
  • Thornleigh: European Piano Academy.

Gordon and Hornsby have three listings each, so families nearby have the most choice. The European Piano Academy in Thornleigh points to piano, and several others mention music tuition in their names. For the rest, check the school's page to see which instruments they teach.

What our listings do not say

We know the name and the suburb of each school. We do not have the ages, fees, instruments or lesson times, so we have left them out. It is worth asking each school:

  • Which instruments do you teach, and from what age?
  • Are lessons one-on-one, in small groups or in a class?
  • Can my child try a lesson first?
  • What does a term or a single lesson cost?
  • Do we need our own instrument at home for practice?

Choosing between schools

If your child already loves one instrument, start with a school that teaches it. If they are curious about everything, a school with a wide range, or a group program, gives them room to explore. Talk to two or three schools before you decide. The feel of the teacher and the studio matters as much as the list of instruments.

Think about the trip

Music lessons are usually weekly, so a short trip makes them easier to keep up. The listings are spread along the rail line and the surrounding suburbs. Check the day and time on each school's page and think about how lessons fit around school pick-up and other activities.

Still adding more

We are still adding music options for the Upper North Shore, including events and classes. Check the schools' own pages for the latest details before you book.

Built from Roolu's local listings. Dates, prices and ages can change, so check with each organiser before you go.
