Free options for kids in Ryde and Hunters Hill are still being added, and right now Roolu has three: two events listed in Hunters Hill and one class in Tennyson Point. That is a short list, and we would rather say so than pad it out.
What's free right now
- Epping Night Markets, listed under Hunters Hill.
- Carols in the Park, Hunters Hill.
- Little Fins, a class in Tennyson Point.
The area covers a lot of ground, from Hunters Hill, Gladesville and Woolwich across to Eastwood, Macquarie Park, North Ryde and West Ryde. At the moment only Hunters Hill and Tennyson Point have a free listing, so the rest of the map is still waiting for its first entries. Open each listing below for the date, time and who it suits. We haven't been given ages or what to expect at each one, so check with the organiser. Free entry can still need a booking, so ask.
Making the most of a free outing
- Treat the event as the main attraction and add a park, a playground or a library stop nearby. Check what's close to the venue before you set out.
- Bring your own water and snacks. Market and evening events are tempting for little ones, and you'll want to stay in charge of the spending.
- For an evening event, check the finish time with the organiser and think about how the kids cope after dark.
- Check parking and public transport ahead of time. Popular free events can fill up.
- Pack a jumper and a hat. Outdoor events change with the weather.
Where the gaps are
We don't yet have free events or clubs listed for Ryde, Gladesville, Eastwood or Macquarie Park, and there are no clubs in the list at all. We're still adding what's free across the area, so check back soon. If your local council, library or community centre runs something free, its own page will have more than we do right now.
Before you head out
Free things change. Organisers can move, cancel or fill sessions, so a quick check of their own page on the morning is worth doing. Roolu only lists what we can confirm exists, and we won't invent a free activity to fill a gap.
