If you are after free things to do with kids in the Inner West, we have four options listed so far. Two are library sessions in Newtown, one is a kids sports party in Tempe and one is a Christmas market in Ashfield. The area covers more than 20 suburbs on our list, but only these three have free options listed at the moment. The events below show the latest from each organiser.
Free sessions at Newtown Library
Newtown Library has two sessions listed for different ages. Rhymetime is for children aged 0 to 2 years. Storytime is for children aged 3 to 5 years. Songs, rhymes and stories are a gentle way to start a morning, and they suit babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers who like a bit of routine. We don't have session times, so check the library's own page for when each one runs and whether you need to book a spot.
A sports party in Tempe
Decathlon Tempe has a Kids Sports Party listed. We don't have the details beyond the name, so ask the organiser what ages it suits, what the kids will do and whether you need to register. If your kids are the type who want to run around, it is worth a look.
A Christmas market in Ashfield
The European Christmas Market in Ashfield is on the list too. Markets can be busy, so think about a pram or a carrier for little ones and a plan for a snack. The organisers publish the opening details, so check their page before you set out.
Ideas by age
- Babies and toddlers (0 to 2): Rhymetime at Newtown Library.
- Pre-schoolers (3 to 5): Storytime at Newtown Library.
- All ages: the Tempe sports party and the Ashfield market. Ask the organisers about ages.
Planning a free day out
Pick the suburb closest to you and build a morning around one thing. Look up the trip before you go, because Newtown, Tempe and Ashfield are in different parts of the Inner West. Always check with the organiser that the session is still free on the day you want to go.
We're still adding free options across the Inner West, so check back. For the latest details, use the organisers' own pages.
