Arts and crafts for kids in Sydney City and the Inner South come as 8 studios, schools and venues plus 5 events on our list. They cover pottery, art classes, photography, comics and a toddler craft session. Some are regular places you can join, and some are one-off events, so it helps to know which is which.
Events on the list
- Toddler craft and chat in Potts Point, for the youngest children.
- A youth comics and graphic novel club in Glebe, listed for ages 12 to 17.
- SOUTHEAST Aboriginal Arts Market in Eveleigh.
- The Animal Whimsy art exhibition opening celebration in Haymarket.
- Santa's studio in Sydney.
Events change, so check each organiser's page for what is on now and whether you need to book.
Studios, schools and venues
- Pottery: The Pottery Shed in Strawberry Hills.
- Art classes: Rain's Art Classes and Art at Express Yourself, both in Chinatown, Waverley Woollahra Art School in Moore Park, and Pine Street Creative Arts Centre in Chippendale.
- Photography: the Australian Centre of Photography in Darlinghurst.
- Also listed: Artspace in Woolloomooloo and the Sydney Opera House in The Rocks.
We don't hold ages, prices or session times for these places, so ask each one what it runs for children and how to enrol.
Choosing by age
- Toddlers: the toddler craft and chat session is the one event aimed at young children by name.
- Primary-age children: ask the art schools and studios whether they run classes for your child's age and how long a term lasts.
- Teens: the comics and graphic novel club is listed for ages 12 to 17, and the photography centre may suit older kids. Ask what it offers for young people.
Planning the day
- Most of these places are in the city and nearby inner suburbs, so think about how you will get there and what the travel looks like with a pram or a tired child.
- Ask whether materials are included or whether your child should bring anything.
- Pottery and painting can be messy, so old clothes or an apron are a good idea.
- If you want a regular class, ask about a trial session before you pay for a full term.
