Families in Blackett have martial arts classes, sport clubs and a few community events within reach for the school holidays. The Summer school holidays run from 18 Dec 2026 to 27 Jan 2027 (starting in 6 weeks). These are the NSW public-school dates. Catholic and independent schools can differ, so check your own school's calendar.
Most of what we list is a short drive away, in Mount Druitt, Plumpton, Oxley Park, Doonside and Marsden Park. We're still adding holiday programs near Blackett, so treat this guide as a starting point rather than a full timetable.
Events to look for
Three events are listed in the events and clubs below. One is a bushcare meet up at Nurragingy Reserve in Doonside. Another is Santa's Arrival Parade at Westfield Mt Druitt. The third is the Elara Village Night Market in Marsden Park. The organisers set the dates and times, and these can change, so check their pages before you leave home. A bushcare meet up is outdoors, so ask the organiser whether children can take part and what they should wear.
Classes for kids
Two martial arts classes in Mount Druitt are listed. One is Little Tigers. The other is a kids karate, self defence and jiu jitsu program. A class name on its own doesn't tell us the age group, the session times or whether it runs during the holidays, so ask the organiser. It is also worth asking whether there is a trial session. Because these are regular classes rather than holiday sessions, treat any age or time you hear as something to confirm directly.
Clubs and centres nearby
Eight clubs and centres are listed in Plumpton and Oxley Park. They include Mount Druitt Netball Association, Western City Rangers, Emerton Pools and Charlie Lowles Leisure Centre. Several are martial arts clubs, including Nihon Bugeikan Martial Arts, Penrith Jitsu Club and Western Warriors Martial Arts. Check each club's age rules before you go, because not every club is aimed at young children. Ask whether anything runs during the break.
Making it easy for kids
Children cope better with a gentle plan. Choose one class or event, then let the rest of the day be free play or rest. For a class, ask whether a parent can stay and watch the first session. If a child is nervous, a trial session is a good way to find out whether they like it before you commit to a term. Keep a backup in mind in case a session is full or the weather turns.
Planning the day
Pick one activity and keep the rest of the day loose. The listings are spread across several suburbs, so check the travel time from Blackett first. Where a class is involved, confirm a spot with the organiser. Bring water and a hat for anything outdoors. For the latest details, the organisers' own pages are the place to look.
