Questions to ask a studio
- Which styles do you teach, and which classes suit my child's age?
- Can my child try a class before we sign up?
- What does a term cost, and are there extra costs such as uniforms or shoes?
- Do you run shows or performances, and what is expected of families?
- Where do parents wait, and is parking easy?
- What happens if my child misses a class?
Choosing a studio
Think about what your child wants. Some children want a relaxed weekly class with friends, while others want to train towards shows or competitions. Studios differ, so say this when you call. If the studio allows it, watch a class and see whether the children look happy and the teacher is clear and kind. One class a week is usually enough while you find out if your child enjoys it.
Tell the studio if your child is new to dance or a bit shy. Ask which class is a gentle first step, and whether siblings can share a day. Ask what your child should wear and bring to the first class.
Getting there
Minchinbury, Erskine Park and St Marys are separate suburbs, so check the travel time at the hour the class runs. Many kids' classes run after school, when roads can be busy. Leave time to park and settle in. Studios in two suburbs may be a similar drive, so compare the timetable as well as the distance.
