Dance for kids on the Lower North Shore starts with the studios. We have ten dance schools and performing arts centres listed, from Chatswood and Lane Cove to Crows Nest, Northbridge, Northwood and St Leonards. There is also one monthly kids' event with a musical theme.
Where the studios are
- Chatswood: Centre Stage Academy
- Crows Nest: Dance 102 Performing Arts and Evolution Performance Centre
- Crows Nest Junction: Dance Classes Sydney and Progress DNA
- Northbridge: Le Petit Ballet and Northbridge Dance Studios
- Lane Cove: Lane Cove Dance Academy
- Northwood: Red Shoes Dance
- St Leonards: L.I.K.E. Dance Studio
The clubs and events below this guide link to each one. We have not been given class times, fees or age ranges, so please check these with each studio.
Ballet, performance and everything between
Some names point to a style, such as Le Petit Ballet, and others to performing arts more broadly, such as Dance 102 Performing Arts and Evolution Performance Centre. The names alone will not tell you which styles each studio teaches, so ask what is on offer for your child's age and whether they run a beginner class. If your child is not sure what they like, a trial class at two studios is a good way to find out.
Something for a dance-loving family
The event listed is a monthly Frozen sing-a-long film screening in Cremorne. It is not a dance class, but it may appeal to children who love music and singing along. Check the organiser's page for the details of each screening.
Questions to ask before you book
- What ages and levels does the class take?
- Can we try a single class first?
- Is there a uniform, and is it needed from the start?
- Do classes lead to concerts or exams, and what do those cost?
- Can a parent watch?
Planning the week
Crows Nest and Crows Nest Junction together have four studios listed, so that is an easy area to compare. If you have more than one child, ask about classes that run back to back. For the latest on class times and spaces, use each studio's own page or phone number.
