  4. Choosing a club

If your child wants to try a sport around Penrith, there are clubs listed for football, netball, rowing and martial arts, plus two community organisations that offer sport programs. We have no sport events or classes listed for Penrith & Nepean right now, so this guide is about the clubs. Ask each one which age groups and levels it takes.

Team sports

  • Penrith Football Club (Penrith) and Glenmore Park Football Club (Glenmore Park), for kids who want to play football with a local team.
  • Penrith District Netball Association (Penrith), for netball.
  • Panthers Juniors (Penrith), a junior club. Check with them which sports and ages they cover.

A local team is a good way to meet other kids who live nearby. Ask the club how a new player joins: whether you can come along to watch first, and how trials or registration work.

Water and fitness

  • Nepean Rowing Club (Penrith), for kids who are curious about rowing. Ask about the youngest age they take and whether children need swimming skills.
  • PCYC Penrith (Penrith) and The Y Penrith (YMCA NSW) (Penrith) are listed as sport providers. Their programs vary, so ask what is on for your child's age.

Martial arts

  • Martial Arts Penrith (Penrith)
  • Emerald Dragon Martial Arts (Jamisontown)
  • GKR Karate (Penrith)

Martial arts can suit children who prefer building their own skills to playing in a team. Styles and class structures differ between clubs, so ask what each one teaches and whether you can watch a session before signing up.

Choosing a club

A few questions save a lot of back and forth:

  • Which age groups and skill levels do you take?
  • How often is training, and where?
  • What does my child need to wear or bring?
  • What does it cost, and how do I register?

Travel matters too. The clubs we have listed are in Penrith, Jamisontown and Glenmore Park. Pick one that is easy to reach after school, so training doesn't become a chore for you. Other suburbs in the area, such as Emu Plains, Kingswood, Werrington and Cranebrook, have no sport clubs listed yet, and we're still adding them.

The clubs below link to what we know so far. For current details, check the clubs' own pages or get in touch with them directly.

Built from Roolu's local listings. Dates, prices and ages can change, so check with each organiser before you go.
