Wondering what to do with the kids around Shalvey when school is out? There is a good mix nearby on Roolu: art classes, martial arts, pools and leisure centres, and some Santa events. The Summer school holidays run from 18 Dec 2026 to 27 Jan 2027 (starting in 6 weeks). Those are New South Wales public-school dates, and Catholic and independent schools can differ, so check your own school's calendar.
Classes to book into
Two art programs are listed in Llandilo, one for ages 6 to 13 and one for ages 4.5 to 8. In Mount Druitt there is Little Tigers, plus a kids karate, self defence and jiu jitsu class. Classes can pause or change over a break, so ask each organiser whether they are running and how to book.
Clubs, pools and places to burn off energy
Around Oxley Park you will find Nihon Bugeikan Martial Arts, Penrith Jitsu Club and Western Warriors Martial Arts, along with Charlie Lowles Leisure Centre. In Plumpton there is Emerton Pools, plus the Mount Druitt Netball Association and Western City Rangers. Roolu does not hold opening hours or entry details for these, so check with each venue before you go.
Santa, markets and a film
Westfield Mt Druitt has a Santa's Arrival Parade and a Reindeer Brunch with Santa and Mrs Claus. Ask the organiser whether you need to book and what it costs. Elara Village Night Market is listed in Marsden Park, and an encore screening from the Blacktown Shorts Film Festival is listed in Glendenning. Ask about film ratings and age suitability before you take little ones.
Planning the days
- Pick one anchor activity, such as a class or a swim, and keep the rest of the day loose.
- The listings are spread over several suburbs, so check the map and travel time first.
- Pack water, hats and snacks, whatever the forecast.
- Night markets and parades can run past little ones' bedtimes, so decide in advance when you will head home.
The events and clubs below are kept up to date, but the organisers' own pages always have the final word on times, prices and ages.
