Ten music schools and teachers are listed for Blacktown and the North-West, in Blacktown, Seven Hills, Rooty Hill and Plumpton. We have no music events or short courses listed right now, so this guide covers regular schools and lessons. Each school's own page has the details.

Where the music schools are

Blacktown has the most, with five listed, including Griffiths Music, Bam Bam Music School and Melodia Music Studio. Seven Hills has three, including On The Beat Music Academy and Harmony Music School. Rooty Hill and Plumpton have one each: Freemans School of Music and Jun Javier Academy of Music. Other suburbs in the North-West have none listed yet, and we're still adding more.

For the youngest

Early Childhood Piano in Blacktown is the one listing with young children in its name. Ask what ages it takes and how its lessons run. For the other schools we have only a name and a suburb, so ask each one about the youngest age it accepts and which instruments it teaches.

Questions to ask a music school

  • Which instruments are taught, and from what age?
  • Are lessons one-to-one or in a small group?
  • How long is each lesson, and how often do they run?
  • Do I need to buy or hire an instrument before the first lesson?
  • Is there a trial lesson?
  • What are the fees, and are there extra costs for books or recitals?

Prices, ages and times are not in our listings, so the school is the one to ask.

Choosing a school

Pick a school you can reach easily every week, because regular travel adds up over a term. Ask to watch or listen to a lesson if the school allows it. Children tend to stay with an instrument longer when the first few weeks are enjoyable, so a relaxed teacher and a short trial can matter more than the size of the school. Short practice on most days helps more than one long session, so ask the teacher what a realistic routine looks like for your child's age.

If you live between two suburbs, compare the schools on both sides and ask which has spaces at times that suit your family. Check each school's own page for the latest details before you enrol.

Built from Roolu's local listings. Dates, prices and ages can change, so check with each organiser before you go.
