When rain sets in around Penrith and the Nepean, our listings point to two library sessions and a family fun day. Our indoor list is short, so this guide covers what we hold and how to plan a wet day without a long drive.
Library sessions in Penrith
Penrith City Library has two listings that suit a wet day. One is a robotics session. The other is Dharug Story Time with Jasmine Seymour and the library's Children's Team. We do not hold ages, times or booking details for either, so check with the library about who each session suits and whether you need to register first.
A family fun day
Write Out West Family Fun Day is also listed in Penrith. We do not know whether it is held indoors, so ask the organiser before you count on it for a rainy day. If it is under cover, it could be a good way to spend a few hours with children of mixed ages.
Not yet on our list
We do not currently hold indoor clubs or classes for Penrith and the Nepean area, such as play centres or activity classes. We are still adding them, and this guide will grow as we do. Until then, the events and clubs below are the places to start, and the organisers can tell you what else they run.
Planning a wet day
- Check the organiser's page or ring them on the morning. Wet weather can change plans.
- Bring a towel and a change of socks for the walk from the car.
- Leave extra time for parking and traffic, because rain slows the roads.
- Have a back-up in mind, such as a longer library visit, in case a session is full.
- Pack snacks and water. Not every venue has a place to buy them.
Making the most of a library visit
A library is a useful rainy day fallback even without a session on. Children can browse, borrow and settle into a quiet corner while you catch your breath. If you plan to go for a session, arrive a little early so younger children have time to get comfortable before it starts.
Check the latest
Organisers change times and add sessions without much notice. The events below link to their own pages, so check them before you head out.
